: I think John Gruber nailed the reasons of the early iTV announcement.
I completely agree with that. Jobs pretty much HAD to show off the "iTV" if he was going to try and get people to start buying movies with the same rampant abandon that they do TV shows. Not very many peopel are going to buy movies JUST to watch on their computers and iPods as HD sets and flatscreens are becoming more and more ubiquitous. It's more of a novelty than anything else to put a movie on an iPod before a long flight or road trip and while it's nice, it doesn't make it a viable market expenditure. Since Jobs came back I can't remember a single business flop he's pulled other than the cube. In order to get more studios to contribute to the new system he had to show them that he had a way to get the content not just on a user's computer and iPod but their TV as well (something their primary competition has done a horrible job of doing with their WinBlows media centers however the new version of it built into Vista is actually pretty damned user-frienldy and the UI is FAR improved and MUCH more accessible!). Eh, at this point I'm jus trehasing things all of us already know so I'll stop now but yeah, you and I are on the same page about the iTV and the purposes of showing it early.
Now back to the original topic, what do you think about the iPod dock keyboard? Would you go out and buy one for $50 + ?
