: It's really wierd
: because the 1st ad on the DVD (my test chpater) came out fine (although
: lower quality video which I later fixed by playing with the compression
: levels) and the audio worked but when I converted the bulk of the film, it
: came out with no audio because QT said I was missing software needed for
: it.
Heh, you should have included that detail (QT saying you didn't have the software you needed.) I also didn't key in on what I believe to be an error in your original statement: You said you encoded as AVI with AAC audio. Handbrake doesn't offer that option- You must have encoded as AVI with AC3 option.
If you encode as AVI with MP3, you need to have the DivX CODEC installed as I mentioned last night, if you encode as AVI with AC3 you need this.
: From my personal experience it always has felt like Toast takes longer to
: decompress QT than AVI for burning onto video DVD and with all of the
: stuff I'm working on right now I was hoping for the quickest method
: possible is all.
Generally decoding a more advanced format will take longer than decoding from a more primitive one, but the difference shouldn't be too colossal. Personally I never do this operation in the first place: If I have the DVD it never leaves MPEG-2 format (Wouldn't want to introduce the artifacts inherent in other forms of compression), and if its something I got off the net or from a friend it will usually play as is in my Philips DVP-642 DVD player that I picked up for about $50.
