: If it supports 1080i then I'm sure it supports 480p... What kind of TV is it?
It's a Toshiba. Oddly, it supports (according to the on screen menu) 1080i and 540p.
: As I understand it LCD TV's have to upconvert everything to their native
: resolution anyhow (though this will go better if the source is outputting
: progressive rather than interlaced).
Mine's a CRT. I don't like LCD for TV since it relies on backlighting and you rarely see one that has better than 1024x768, so they don't even support 1080i. I don't like plasma either since they can get resolution burn and are expensive as hell. Projection is out. Period. So that leaves CRT. Next year, we should start to see SED and FEDs which will be thin like LCD and plasma but have contrast and response like CRT. Basically each pixel is a tiny CRT. They'll be insanely expensive at first, but I figure in about 5 years they'll be affordable. I think I can like with my big boxy CRT until then.
