: See, I don't despise them. My real problem is that when there isn't the
: substance to back them up, you've sort of failed at achieving the stated
: intention of the genre. Horror should be horrifying, not
: horrifying.......ly bad. At that point, you've got smoke and mirrors, but
: no intrigue and ultimately it becomes easy to lose the elements that make
: any story good.
Word, but isn't this one of the prime critisisms fans like you and myself have about EVERY genre of film? Take for example the current trend of crappy, highly unamusing parody films where all they do is rip off bits from previous films in the attempt of parodying them. These aren't true comedies or even good parody films like The Naked Gun, Hot Fuzz, or any other number of good ones.
: To me, most (new) horror movie are just sort of.... gross movies. Every once
: in a while I'm up for that (if i'm in the right mood, I think Dead Alive
: is a great flick), but most of the time, I'm horribly unimpressed by the
: lack of interest that a horror flick compels in me; e.g. Everyone talked
: about The Ring and how scary it was.... Wasn't really scary at all, if you
: ask me. I *am* still interested in seeing The Grudge (1 &2), but am
: ultimately afraid (a little irony for you) that I'll just be disappointed
: AGAIN.
The grudge blew so bad I have no desire to see the 2nd one either. Sarah Michelle Gellar needs to just stop acting IMO but that's just me apparently seeing as she has any number of crappy remakes of somewhat original Asian horror films. Don't waste your money on it, definitely worth seeing once as a free movie but nothing you're really likely to want the collector's edition DVD's on if you know what I'm saying. IMO "The Ring" was far better, haven't seen the second one yet though.
Real horror movies? I have high hopes for Rob Zombie's Halloween ressurection but we'll see.
